Famous UK carp waters

UK carp fishing has been shaped by a small number of iconic waters over the last 75 years. Redmire in Herefordshire produced the fish that started the sport (Walker's Clarissa, 1952). Waters like Wraysbury, Conningbrook, Wasing and now Waterside each defined an era through a single record-breaking catch. Alongside them, a handful of syndicate and day-ticket venues - Yateley, Linear, Sandhurst, Elphicks - have supplied thousands of UK anglers with realistic access to specimen carp.

Redmire Pool - Herefordshire

The cradle of UK carp fishing. Stocked with Leney carp in 1934. Home of Walker's Clarissa (44 lb, 1952 British record, held 28 years). Also Yates's Bishop (44+ lb, 1980). Clarissa died at London Zoo 1972; her preserved specimen was sold in 2024 to the Fisherman's Arms pub in Docklow, where it is on public display.

Wraysbury 1 - Middlesex

The first modern big-pit British record water. Terry Hearn's Mary at 55 lb 13 oz (November 1996) was the British record for its era. Mary later grew and was recaptured by Kev Cummins at 56 lb 6 oz. Wraysbury represents the shift from small estate lakes to big gravel pits as record-producing waters.

Conningbrook (Mid Kent Fisheries) - Kent

Home of Two Tone - Lee Jackson's 61 lb 7 oz British record (August 2002), the first British carp to break 60 lb. Two Tone peaked at 67 lb 14 oz and died in August 2010, but during her life became the most-photographed named carp in UK history.

Cranwells Lake, Wasing Estate - Berkshire

Where Dean Fletcher caught The Parrot at 68 lb 1 oz (January 2016) - the British carp record for a decade. The Parrot died in 2017. Wasing Estate remains one of the UK's most sought-after syndicate memberships.

Waterside Fishery - Chesham, Buckinghamshire

Current British carp record water: Mike Nixon's Waterside Common at 68 lb 8 oz (1 May 2026), officially ratified by the BRFC in June 2026. This is the first common carp to hold the outright British record since Walker's Clarissa in 1952.

Yateley Complex - Hampshire

Historic multi-lake complex where Terry Hearn cut his teeth in the 1990s. Home to Bazil - the king of North Lake, a giant mirror carp that has been caught by generations of UK carpers.

One of the UK's premier day-ticket waters. Venue record 49 lb 8 oz. Over 17 forty-pound carp in the stock. Average fish size around 26 lb - exceptional for a day-ticket venue.

Elphicks Fishery - Kent

Accessible day-ticket carp fishing at real quality. North Lake holds 60 lb+ specimens; Pullens and West End lakes hold 50 lb+ fish. One of the most highly-rated day-ticket complexes in South East England.

One of the biggest club-water carp venues in the UK. Carp over 50 lb alongside bream, tench and pike. Requires RDAA membership - far more accessible than most 120-acre syndicate waters.

Five fifty-pound carp and over 20 forties. Jack Forrester's 54 lb 8 oz mirror in May 2026 was caught within 24 hours of joining the syndicate - the kind of headline that sends waiting-list applications through the roof.
