Padding and dividers
Fully separated internal channels are the difference between a rod holdall and an expensive tube. Look for foam-padded neoprene sleeves on every rod slot.
Base material
Reinforced PVC base is the standard - rod holdalls get dumped on wet grass, gravel and mud constantly. Any cordura-only base wears through in 2-3 seasons of heavy use.
Buckle and strap quality
